ABOUT RED QUEEN
Many types of music, and the actual mechanics of the record business, heavily impressed me very early on. So having begun attending rock concerts at the age of six, it surprised no one when I when I left Detroit for Los Angeles as a teen to set out upon my career in music.
After working for a year at publishing legend Lester Sill's company in Hollywood, Screen Gems/EMI Music, I made my transition into records by starting as an unpaid intern working for Miles Copeland's upstart I.R.S. Records. Within months I was head of publicity for then-unknown artists such as the Go-Go's, R.E.M., the English Beat, The Cramps, and numerous bands that "crossed over" to large commercial success.
Moving on from I.R.S. I opened my own indie publicity company, acquiring unique and highly esteemed artists such as Richard Thompson, Eric Burdon, Van Dyke Parks, Leon Redbone, and alt-country pioneers the Long Ryders.
While still providing media services for those acts I was called by CBS/Sony Records International to consult their West Coast P.R. office. I was soon brought on board full time and, seeing a pressing need, turned the office from a small concert ticketing and album servicing satellite into a full-service branch of International, signing off on all of the West Coast artists' international marketing, touring, promotion, press, merchandising, and product scheduling. I took responsibility for the development of over 100 clients between Columbia, Epic, and associated labels, and was instrumental in working with numerous acts that went multi-platinum including Ozzy Osbourne, Toto, Journey, Santana, and The Jacksons. I was heavily involved in the resurgence of Alice Cooper's career, and played a pivotal role in the development and marketing of then-unknown multi-platinum acts Warrant and Alice in Chains. I traveled abroad frequently, observing and assessing Sony affiliates' marketing efforts, and overseeing client promotional and commercial tours. I handled the careers of several top artists at their specific request, helped make the International division millions of dollars, and was recognized worldwide as Sony Music International's "rock music specialist."
A phone call from the Walt Disney Company's Hollywood Records brought me to them as head of their International division. Tasked with successfully transitioning International through an intense label restructuring, I provided my professional expertise in auditing and dissolving their assets from a previous overseas International operation and managed all aspects of the label’s roster and film soundtrack releases, promotions, and tours, while simultaneously shopping for a new worldwide distribution deal.
I wished to hang out my independent shingle again after corporate life at Disney and with Red Queen Management I returned to wearing many hats. As a media and business strategist I consult top recording artists, filmmakers, attorneys, and other corporate entities, envisioning the entire picture for the project’s or client’s long-term growth. I’m able to combine my entertainment and entrepreneurial skills to create opportunities for clients through creative product / personal management, branding, publicity, social media, booking, marketing, promotion, film placements, fund raising, and endorsements / sponsorships. I am in frequent demand as a "for hire" business affairs resource, sorting out issues pertaining to copyright infringement, label and product distribution deals, record releases, publishing clearances, licensing requests, song placements, and bootlegged product. I also maintain social networking and websites for media personalities and businesses.
Apart from work I have a strong passion for researching historic architecture and gardens, restorations of both, and the adaptive re-use of old buildings. In addition I am a consultant and grower of antique roses, and love to design and maintain vintage-look gardens.
The common traits among my work and personal interests are my tenacity, curiosity, leadership, problem solving and organizing abilities, creative ingenuity, research abilities, outstanding sense of humor, and a sincere interest in improving whatever the subject is I’m tackling.
